Reflection time

The greatest lesson learned in completing my first metals project is how much time it takes to come to a finished piece. (And, yes, thinner metal is better.) It took me a while to land on what shape I wanted to use. My sketchbook has lots of doodles and drawings trying to come up with my design. My model construction was frustrating at first, but once I figured out how to do the cone shape, I was on a better track. My measurements could have been better- the candle I bought for the piece won’t fit under it unless I cut it down.

I made this a daunting project and I’m glad that it’s over. I think I have a better grasp on my limitations with this new medium. My pendant sketches and models are flowing much more smoothly, although my brother told me he sees a face in the design and now that’s all I see. (There is no face though!) 🙂

The third project looks intimidating, but the sample photos on Flickr are amazing. We’ll see what happens.
